Ryton see off Stocksfield

(Posted On Wed 27 August, 2008)

Ryton managed to play their last midweek game of the season on Friday 22nd August. With both home and away fixtures previously falling foul of the glorious summer weather, both Captains agreed the fixture as an all-out double header!
With fine weather for most of the day quickly turning to rain around 5pm, both teams turned up and agreed to play 10 overs per innings.
Stocksfield batted first and started slowly following some tight line and length from the Ryton bowlers. With conditions improving, Stocksfield managed to put on 49 from their 10 overs without losing a wicket. Stevens finishing with figures of 3-1-0-6.
With the rain gone and some light at last, Stocksfield took to the field and Ryton began a mini-batting collapse, only opener Lawson managing to keep the momentum going. Once joined by Captain Moore, the Stocksfield total was never enough.
Lawson 20 not out, Moore 19 not out, with Stocksfield's Newton taking 3 well deserved wickets.
Both teams should be commended for agreeing to play, especially considering the conditions at 5.55pm - cheers everyone...some cricket at last!!

Last game of the midweek season

(Posted On Thu 21 August, 2008)

Gents
Friday 22nd August will see Ryton take on Stocksfield Wanderers in the final midweek game of the season. Due to both home and away games falling foul of the weather earlier in the season, this game is a 'double-header all or nothing' fixture.

Maximum points from the game will see Ryton finish the league on 63 points, and if local rivals Merz & McLellan haven't managed to score a point this week, we'll nick the final promotion place into Division 3!!

Hopefully the ground is up to it and the weather holds out....here's hoping..

I'm so excited I had to nip for a nervous tiddle!!

And the rain continues......

(Posted On Thu 14 August, 2008)

Thank you Lord for Beer, Women and Cricket...but please give us a break with the rain!!

Yes folks, 3 midweek games planned this week, but only 1 playable thanks to the lovely British Summer...very frustrating. And to top it all off, Monday's game at Coquet wasn't the most enjoyable game thanks to some very dubious umpiring decisions - thanks chaps!! Unfortunate that not every team in the league is playing the game in the same spirit.

With all midweek games having to be played before the 22nd August, and other teams piling up re-arranged fixtures like a shelf stacker at Asda, any more midweek cricket looks unlikely - but Peter and I will be working like mad to try and get the last 3 games played - we'll keep you all posted.

Keep an eye on the news page - we're planning to have a midweek team drinks & Pizza night at the club! Date to be confirmed.

Week commencing the 28th July

On Monday 28th, Ryton travel to the Blue Flames ground in Long Benton for the re-arranged fixture against Proctor & Gamble. Then on Wednesday 30th, make the short trip along to Clara Vale for the scheduled away tie against Merz & McLellan.
If anyone is unavailable for both games, please let Jason know as soon as possible - Peter Moore is expected to Captain both games.
