The Main News

Monday night, Sunday morning

(Posted On Thu 19 January, 2006)

The response for nets has been superb with 38 players registering an interest.

As demand is so high, we've negotiated with Percy Main CC, the use of their one lane net on two days, each week. This will allow us to split into two groups (i.e. you only attend one of the nets each week), and ensure each net is a worthwhile practice session.

The sessions will take place Monday evenings from 7.00 p.m. (starting 23rd Jan) and Sunday mornings (starting 29th Jan) from 11.00 am.

Please advise cricket@sage.com, which of the net sessions you would prefer to attend. A confirmation email with details will be sent to advise which session you may attend.

Winter coaching sessions, at the Newcastle Cricket Centre, start on Friday 17th February 2006

(Posted On Sun 15 January, 2006)

Winter coaching sessions, at the high tech Newcastle Cricket Centre, will start on Friday 17th February 2006 (8.30pm to 10pm). Visit the coaching and pratice page for more info (http://www.midweekcricket.com/Page.asp?id=15&pid=8 )

We have eight sessions booked, taking us up to and including 7th April 2006. These sessions are run by a fully qualified ECB coach and cover all aspects of the game. A coaching plan has been specially designed by the cricket centre, allowing us to utilise one of the top ten cricket facilities in the UK, with 5 individual lanes as well as the capability for 6-a-side indoor cricket. It's fully equipped with five bowling machines and state-of-the art video analysis to provide an excellent environment for our coaching and development.

Again, we have a full kit bag (and cricket balls) for all to use. Each session costs £2 per person. Contact cricket@sage.com to confirm your attendance.

Latest score from our intrepid slow bowler down under.......

(Posted On Tue 29 November, 2005)

Well we won my first game inside the 1st day!!
Bowled them all out for 80 and we finished the 1st day on 104-5.

It all seems a bit bizarre but the matches are 1 innings each but if a game is won on the 1st day, you can ontinue to bat on the 2nd day and set them a target. If we bowl them all out again inside our total we get max bonus points for an 'outright' win. Some other bonus points rules, which I don't know yet, apply along the way if we don't bowl them out a second time.

I was gutted I didn't get to bowl as it was a mine field of a pitch. They were 0-2 and 17-5 so they did quite well to get to 80 in the end. Our main 3 bowlers bowled brilliant taking all the wickets so I wasn't suprised
I didn't get on to bowl. I fielded very well though making some good stops in the covers. I'm next into to bat on the 2nd day and I've been told I'll get a
spell in there 2nd innings so there will be more to report next week.

Here is my new teams web address http://bentleighcc.cricketvault.com/

Catcha later.

Andrew

MCTERNAN SET FOR AUSTRALIAN GRADE CRICKET DEBUT!!!!

Yep after 4 weeks of training, gotta call it training as its not just nets, I've been picked to play in the C grade team, 3rd team to you & me, on Sunday.

They have 2 day games over here and play 1st day one weekend and the 2nd day the weekend after. Still 1 innings each I think and its 80 overs a day so it's gonna
feel like playing in a bl**dy Test Match come the end of the 2nd day.

I will let you know how I get on next week.

Cheers
Andrew
