Mixed Bag Season Continues

(Posted On Wed 8 August, 2012)

CCC's curate's egg of a season continued in early August with a defeat against Oceans, a cup quarter final win at first division Whitley Bay and a tense win against second-placed FHCC.

Against Oceans CCC chose to bat first. The skipper was run out on the third ball, but Majid looked in good form, hitting 17 before being fired lbw by Matty. Alan went in a similar manner, and the innings deteriorated from there, with Fiaz also out lbw, and only Greg getting to double figures, CCC totalling 52 all out. Surprisingly Oceans made a hash of their response losing 7 wickets and only scoring the winning runs half way through the final over. Majid, Guy, Matty and Fiaz all bowled superbly and the fielding was also good.

Team: Peter, Simon E, Majid, Fiaz, Alan, Mudassar, Greg, Guy, Matty, Gerry

Against Whitley Bay CCC batted first scoring 130-4,with Majid (42) and Fiaz (36) the main run getters. The home side failed to get anywhere near the target scoring 80 odd for 6 to see CCC into the semi final for the first time ever - where Kirkwood await.

Team: Jared, Mudassar, Majid, Fiaz, Chris N, Peter, Greg, Matty, Guy, Ru, Zac (stood in for Ayan

On Tuesday 7th at South North CCC put FHCC into bat on a fine evening. The visitors enjoyed the batting conditions and totalled 137-4 from 14 with opener Cook scoring 83 not out. Ru took three wickets. Guy took a sharp catch at point and made an excellent run out.

CCC batted solidly in response with Greg (14) and skipper (25) putting on over 40 before being out identically caught at mid on in the space of three balls. Ayan (19), Nico (13) continued the good work with Ayan hitting a six onto the nets. When they, Matt and Peter were out quickly with the score around 80 it looked game over, but Woodman hit a brilliant 36 from about 18 balls, his best innings in years, and Alan (Alex Ferguson) Fletcher running better than anyone and hitting shot of the day through extra cover for four, took the score past the two bonus point mark (112) to within one of victory in the space of 3 overs before Woodman was run out. Matty and a no ball saw CCC home. A superb win.

Team: Greg, Simon E, Ayan, Nico, Matt P, Peter, Woodman, Alan, Matty, Guy, Ru

Next up Kirkwood in the cup.

Double Delight

(Posted On Thu 26 July, 2012)

CCC marked the arrival of summer sunshine with back-to-back wins against table-toppers Pont Eagles and Civil Service.

At South North the visitors were restricted to 108-6 from 14 overs, with Majid taking 4-26. CCC eased home from 12.6 overs with Majid 31 not out and Fiaz scoring 23.

Team: Chris, Mudassar, Greg, Fiaz, Majid, Peter, Ayan, Jared, Matty, Guy, Ru

Against Civil Service at Bullocksteads on Wednesday CCC looked to be cruising to a crushing victory when the Civils were reduced to 28-7 from 8 overs, with Ru taking 5-13 including a hat trick (Ru is only 14 as well - an outstanding performance). Some shoddy fielding and useful batting from 9 10 jack saw Civils reach 89-9 from 14. CCC timed their run chase with solid contributions from Peter 12, Mudassar 14, a stylish 29 from Jared and 13 not out in 6 from Simon to win the game in the final over.

Team: Peter, Mudassar, Jared, Chris, Neil, Simon E, Greg, Simon W, Matty, Alan, Ru

Cap: Ru, duck Peter
Special mention to Mudassar fro bowling 4 overs and opening the batting while fasting, and Alan for playing straight of the train from London.

CCC Progress to Quarters

(Posted On Wed 18 July, 2012)

Well done lads on what was a brilliant win against Aletasters at Riding Mill last night that saw CCC march on into the quarters of the cup!

It was nine vs. nine after the late pull out of Majid (en route due to a suspected leather allergy?!)

Lost the toss and they elected to bat. A superb bowling and fielding display followed that had them all out for only 65. All bowlers in the wickets with Ru being the standout man. Four great catches with Chris the Champers for a full length, one handed effort.

Nico and Greg opened and both started like a train but were out after a few overs. Fiaz and I then saw us home - me playing the anchor, Fiaz playing the cricket! Not sure what he finished on but a super knock with a smattering of the shots we’ve been lucky enough to become accustomed to.

Sorry to the lads who didn’t get a knock and thanks as always to those who kept score and went out to umpire.

Cap – Ru great bowling display and catch

Duck – I can’t actually remember but I think it was due to leather?!

FEEL SLIGHTLY BETTER FACTOR SURROUNDING CCC

(Posted On Mon 9 July, 2012)

CCC's heroic win against previously unbeaten FHCC last week has seen supporters charged with a feeling of moderate optimism as the season's points tally was doubled in one evening.

The win in question, at the bucolic cricketing paradise of Bullocksteads, looked unlikely at first as only 8 CCC players took to the pitch. However an all round star turn from Chris Nicholson with 50 and 3 wickets was enough to defeat the hosts.

The following day 7 CCC players took to the Blue Flames pitch to receive a thrashing from Civil Service, but in general there are signs of improvement after a poor first half to the season.

CCC PROGRESS IN CUP

(Posted On Thu 7 June, 2012)

CCC achieved their first win of the season at Heaton last night as Division II ORPs were seen off in the first round of the Cup. CCC have won all five meetings with ORPs who retained their Division II place on the last day of the 2011 season at the expense of CCC.

Excellent bowling from Chris, Majid and Fiaz in particular saw the home side bowled out for just 109 from 15.3 overs. CCC achieved the target easily to win by 7 wickets with three overs remaining. Aletasters will be the opposition in round 2.

Such is the nature of the Mid Week League, and this season's Division III, that ORPs - though a decent enough side - were the weakest CCC has played so far. Very rusty performances saw easy wins for KSOB and Spitfires; the best team played so far, Ponteland Eagles, also won, although CCC more than matched them for three quarters of that match before slippingg at the final hurdle. Here's hoping for some improved league results and a run in the Cup.

CCC: Majid, Simon E, Fiaz, Mudassar, Peter, Greg, Chris N, Ruaidhri, Alan F, Matty, Guy
