Win Card Shortage Crisis Looms for Victorious CCC |

As Welsh demi-god Matt Planchant swept the winning runs through square leg at Chollerford on Thursday, one could be forgiven for thinking that unconstrained celebration would be the order of the day. But behind the scenes at Computing Cricket Club there were some worried faces, for the club's winning start to the season (three league wins and a place in the last 16 of the cup) has led to a shortage of 'win cards'. The 4" by 3" blue cards are completed by the winning captain and sent by first class post to the league secretary so that results can be officially compiled. "Usually CCC order around six cards for a season and they remain unused at the bottom of the skipper's bag, underneath that forgotten sock," says club secretary Cliff Spencer. "This year we've had a run on them and it's still May!"

CCC Win Thriller |
|

CCC clinched a nailbiting win at Chollerford last night against highly rated Humshaugh. The home side won the toss and elected to bat, and despite three early wickets (two to Tim, one to Rian) progressed to 102-3 off 14 overs with Baker (37*) and Whittaker (33*) holding the innings together. CCC's reply was in similar vein, with three early wickets causing some problems, but a steadily paced response from Simon E (24*) and a frankly breathtaking innings from Matt (61*) saw victory achieved with just two balls left.

TWO GAMES, TWO WINS |

CCC recorded a second successive Division 3 victory in lovely conditions at Heaton last night. Travellers won the toss and chose to bat. They proceeded steadily against tight bowling and fielding, with CCC protecting one short boundary very well. 80-4 wasn't really enough on this ground, though it was more than had looked likely with a couple of overs remaining. CCC knew that if they batted through their overs and didn't do anything rash they would win. This they did with an over and a half to spare, with Simon E. scoring a painstaking 33, and debutant Steve Campbell batting very steadily and correctly for 17 not out. Though CCC would have liked at least one more bonus point, the fact remains that they have won their first two fixtures in a higher division, which could be all important come the end of the season.
