Appropriately enough CCC's 2008 season ended with a cancellation. The traditional end of season friendly against Park House was called off on Sunday morning due to a wet pitch. The Backworth groundsman had waited as long as possible in the hope that the pitch would dry up following the heavy rain of the previous week, but despite Saturday and Sunday being dry there was not enough sunshine to make conditions playable.

CCC star Alasdair Douglas left Blue Flames replete with trophies following an eventful cricket league agm on Friday night.
The former Genetics all rounder enjoyed an emotional evening having coincidentally sat on the same table as his League Championship winning ex-teammates, by virtue of which he picked up a trophy-by-association.
"It's been an emotional night for me", sobbed the overcome Scot as Don Catley dished out the awards. "I'd like to thank Rabbie Burns, Jon Rob, and Mudassar Amin. It means an awful lot to me. They mean an awful lot to me. The plastic gold and glittery things mean an awful lot to me. I covet these trinkets."
In a fantastic evening of celebrity glamour two further awards came CCC's way thanks to the Special Nominations category. These were: Most Improved Midweek League Cricketer - Guy Finkill, and Services to Cricket - Mudassar Amin.
Neither player was there to collect their awards, so former ORPs star Douglas loaded them into his Pickford's Removal van to take home for safe-keeping. They are currently in secure storage in either his CCC trophy cabinet, or his ORPs trophy cabinet. His Genetics one is now full.

CCC have won promotion back to the Second Division after a one year absence.
In some respects CCC were lucky. A third placed finish would not normally be enough, but two sides dropped out of the top flight meaning that additional sides were promoted from the lower divisions to fill the gaps. Moreover, CCC's performances during the second half of the season were generally mediocre, with two defeats to relegated Kingstonian the worst results of the season.
However, the last three and a half matches were victims of the pathetic August weather, and thus yielded only 3 points. Despite this a top 2 spot was sustained all season until Ratcatchers managed to dodge the rain to squeeze in a late victory which took them into second. The Corbridge side are promoted alongside CCC, Blue Flames, and deserved champions Monkseaton Saints.
2009's second division lines up as follows: CCC, Monkseaton, Blue Flames, Ratcatchers, Fenham, West End, GEM, Seaton Burn

With few nominations, the cap was awarded to the skipper (about time) for a decent catch in the bog on the long on boundary.
As usual the duck was a straight fight between Mudassar, Guy and the skipper. This time it went to Mudassar for failing to tell the team that Abrar was unavailable until 4pm. However it was a close run thing as there was some disatisfaction that the skipper had allowed everyone to get wet for 14 overs before abandoning the match before Chris and Nick had a chance to bat!
