Terrific win last night with one ball to spare!
West End got off to a slow start with Macca and Jarrod containing well with two wickets falling, bowled Jarrod and smart take behind by Blair off Jarrod. A long stand by A Shoukat (51) and K Akram (23) accelerated the score with change bowling of Don and Gary Hall. Gordon came on to take 3 wickets - 2 stumpings and a catch by Jarrod. Jarrod came back on to take two more wickets as the West Enders managed a creditable 126-8 with S Ahmed hitting 27.
Jarrod and Blair catches; Blair 3 stumpings also!
The start of the Rowlands reply was equally slow with only 30 coming off the first 7 overs. Alan tried hard to work up the pace having lost Blair caught for only 4 and joined by Will Allen for only his second knock of the season. The bowling of A Hussain 4-0-16-0 and A Ali 4-0-30-1 was tight until the last over of Ali went for 17! Alan hit 2 boundaries and many fielders in his hard grafting before being caught for 29 with around 35 runs still needed off fast reducing overs. Will hit 8 fours and a six in his 61 not out having been joined by Grampers. Sensible batting by Grampers with his 17 not out in 1s and 2s swiftly taken ensured that Rowlands came home but with only that one ball to spare. K Azam had bowled well also for his 3-0-19-0. Well done to the team, especially MoM Will but with credites to several others including smart fielding by those not yet mentioned.

Rowlands batted first with James and Shaun oozing confidence against the accurate Andy Robinson and the nippy Colin Myers. With 29 on the board James was adjudged caught behind off the nippy one having notched up 18, including three sizeable 4's. Shaun went soon after, bowled by the accurate one for a more modest 10. Alan and Graeme then steadied the ship and kept the total moving whilst seeing off the openers. The change bowlers started OK but eventually bowled some poor stuff with lots of EX Tras. Alan was bowled for a useful 9 but it was left to Grampers to hold the innings together for a long time. His important innings netted 28 runs before getting caught out. In the meantime Aiders got 8, Guy Scholes 9, Davy Holmes 2, Dave Charlton run out for 3 and Don in for the last ball, not facing but running a super-quick non-striker's 2! The rest of the runs came from Jarrod Rhodes with a late flurry of six 4's in his unbeaten, man of the match winning 31. Dave Chamley did not bat.
In their reply, Nine Pins top order looked threatening but Dave Chamley claimed the top three wickets with some lively stuff for his 4-0-34-3, with Tom Nichol 19 making some useful runs. Jarrod bowled 2-0-15-0 without a wicket but perhaps he was still thinking about his impressive batting display. Davy Charlton came on to bowl some very accrate, containing stuff and 4-0-19-2 was his just reward, although he probably should have the credit of an lbw which was not given. At the other end, Don emulated Dave Chamley with 3-0-10-3 but the lower batsmen could not take many runs in compensation for their wickets: a good catch by Grampers and two PLUMB LBWs! Other catchers were Guy (a skyer, well taken twice), Dave Chamley a c&b and Jarrod. Davy Holmes bolwed an over for 2 runs and Aiders mopped up with the incredible figures of six balls, 4 runs 2 wickets. Ben Twizzell had managed to hit 28 but the Pins all fell for 89 to give Rowlands the maximum 10 points.

Rowlands were in trouble when one of the team coaches broke down and they had to field for the first 5 overs with only 8 men.
YAARS batted first with S Anderson 44 and Graham Angus 39 getting them off to a great start. Rhodes and Selms claimed an opener each clean bowled. Was Aslam out of retirement for the cause hit some huge 6s in his 31 before being lbw to Don Catley. YAARS posted 150-4 off 14*8 ball overs. Rowlands then opened well and were up with the chase. Matt Hynd went caught at slip off Surgh Singh for 30 but Shaun Collins pressed on well with 66 before being run out. Roy hit a good quick 10 and Ian Ross then hit a six and a four but Rowlands finished just 2 short of the YAARS total in an exciting finish. Graham Angus was called upon to give the killer blow with a final over off which onlty 6 had been required. His accuracy instead brought 2 wickets for only 2 runs, one bowled and one lbw as Rowlands just failed in a gallant quest for runs.
Rowlands now play TWFB trying to avoid 3 defeats on the spin for teh first time in a long time.

The League season saw Rowlands off to a good start last night at the not quite ready New Tynemouth.
Rowlands were surprisingly put into bat by Aidan House with new recruit Blair Parlane and old hand Matty Hynd leading the offensive. After Blair had dominated the strike, Matt had a chance to use his experience. Unfortunately he had been watching too much TV over the winter and tried to emulate Darren Gough by dancing down the wicket to White. He was at the wrong ball and got stumped by one that moved away from him. Blair and the incoming Roy Haygarth dominated the innings with fine arrays of shots. Blair was caught for 40 so in Graeme Redpath for an all left hand attack. G. Brown was surprised to be called wide "so many times down the leg side to left handers so early in the season" but extras at 29 was a good help towards the Rowlands mounting total. Roy surpassed Blair with an undefeated 45 and Graeme did his stuff with 13 before being stumped trying to push on the score. Aidrian Conway brought his usual style to the crease and hit two singles before sacrificing on the last ball with a second run never really on. 130-4 left skipper Alan Hynd happy enough whilst removing his unused pads.
The reply in the already darkening arena saw a lively spell from Paddy Curtis, initially wide of the mark but increasingly threatening for his 3-0-17-0 and some mixed but encouraging overs from Martin Rownan 3-0-21-0. The opening partnership of G Brown and C Lyall had put on 40. Dave Charlton then bowled an over for 4 and Don Catley the next for 2 before Aidan House tried to open up big time. Dave went for 14 but then Don bowled out both openers in his next over. This brought Chris Tuck to the crease and he attacked Dave's next over off which came 15 more runs. Don then struck twice more with furniture removals and Felton joined Tuck. Aidan House to their credit kept going and managed 120-4 with Dave completing on 4-0-43-0 and Don's last over suffering two huge 6's from Tuck man (40*) and 21 coming off it to change 3-0-13-4 into the less impressive 4-0-34-4.
This was a good, enthusiastic fielding display from Rowlands - both young legs and old - as runs were kept down at most opportunities. Eight point was a good start and saw a well deserved first MoM for Roy.

RCA edged past ORP into the final of the cup. ORP struggled to 84 all out with a fine opening spell from Guy Saxton 4-1-8-3 & Andy Horner 4-1-21-3 keeping them in check. Some decent late order hitting took them to their total which was competetive on a slow drying surfact at Tynemouth. RCA started well but lost two wickets in two balls and then a 3rd soon after. At 37/3 RCA where glad to be only chasing 84. Graeme Redpath (17) & Alan Hynd (10) game the innings stability but after losing both quickly RCA stumbled across the line with 3 wickets in hand and 10 balls left. RCA now face either Kirkwood or Civil Service in the final.
