After the long wet summer an 11th hour trip to Seaton Burn secured the title. Needing one more point than Fenham from final week games, Alan put in the Burn to face a strong Rowlands bowling attack. Pratty was on fire and knocked over the stumps of opener Jason Brown for only 2. He was then unlucky with spilled chances and a possible stumping to record 3-0-23-1 as second top Rowlands wicket taker for the season. Mike Phillips bowled well from the other end with only 18 runs coming off his 3 overs and two wickets taken thanks to a fine catch from Ben and he bowled top scorer Andrew White for 26 with a real swinger. The Burn had little more to offer and Ian Younger enjoyed a tight spell of 2-0-10-1 thanks to another fine catch in the deep by Ben which dismissed opener Redpath for 19. Richie Walker took over from Mike and bowled well at the tail to boost the bonus points. He had two good takes by Matt Hynd, a bowled and a caught behind by Mike Steven to record an impressive 2.7-0-13-4 as welcome relief to the onslaught suffered on Monday! Don was granted a late over and conceded only 4 runs, bowling one out having loosened up well with jogs to and from fine leg! The Burn posted a mere 70 off their 12 overs and Rowlands debated whether they could achieve maximum points with victory within 7 overs.
Out strode Ben and Mike Phillips to take on the task. Chris Weldon bowled well for the Burn recording 3-0-18-1 and this included Mike Phillips who was caught off a skyer going for the points after an impressive 15 including a four and a six. Ben meanwhile was selecting his shots and pushing the score on well. Matt came in at number three and found it more difficult to force runs off the soft wicket. He made 13 including a 4 and some family typical shots past gully for some 2s. Thanks to some good running and Ben to the boundary shots the result was not in doubt but the 7 over marker was fast approaching. After Matt's well taken skyer, it was time for big Phil. Six or out was unfortunately out for a duck and the chance of maximum points eroded. Ian Younger held up his end for 0 not out as Ben finished the business smartly with the first 2 balls of the 8th over to end on a Man of the Match (his 6th of the season) 37 not out with 3 fours. Ten points to Rowlands! Even better when the call came in that Whitley Bay had beaten Fenham to confirm Rowlands reinstated as champs after previous titles in 2004 and 2005 and not so close in the interim!
Well done everyone and thanks as ever to our sponsor Rowlands Chartered Accountants, arranged by Alan. Thanks also to Roy for scoring and we hope the knee mends well over the winter.
Hopefully a good number of us can turn out at the League Presentation Meeting to receive our Cup and individual medals on Friday night 7th September at Blue Flames. 7:30 start and a free hot and cold buffet!

Alan won the toss and elected to bat in a final 12 overs thrash at Percy Main with the visitors Kirkwood.
We started on time and the Ben and Joe show got off to a good start with 22 off the first over and 31 for the first wicket in the third over when Ben skied a catch to the alert Richie Crawford for 17 (a four and a six aided by 4 overthrows). In came Mike Phillips and the score raced to 112 by the 9th over when Mike was bowled by Jaswinder Singh for 22 with one big six. Joe was in supreme control but went for a man of the match 73 to a catch off Singh (7 fours, 2 sixes). Chad Koen did not mess about and hit 2 big instant sixes in a rapid 17 but fell to another superb catch by Richie Crawford. Ian
Younger hit three singles, Richie Walker 2 runs then caught also by Richie Crawford and big Tom 1 not out with a 100% strike rate from his one ball faced! Rowlands had laid out their stall with 143-5 and said chase that! Singh recorded 3-25 and Amjad Ali 2-29 off their 3 over spells.
Kirkwood showed their intent from the start but Pratty kept a good tight line and bowled M Usman for 5. At the other end pressure from Don's bowling saw a mix up and the other opener Rashid run out thanks to Mike Phillips
quick thinking. The Kirkwod innings was mainly about Singh who saw off Don with two big sixes whilst Pratty bowled thrugh for 3-0-15-2 thanks to a catch by Joe. Don terminated on 2-0-25-0 and Ian Younger and Richie Walker
took the reigns. The score rose from 37-3 to 84-4 but then 84-5 as Ian struck double blows to the furniture. A Mahmood had made 26 mainly in boundaries and Singh was still on song. While Richie Walker was suffering with 3-0-46-0, the Younger one stuck gold for Rowlands when Ben took a good catch on the square leg boundary to dismiss Singh for 73 (6 sixes and 3 fours) and Ian recorded 3-0-44-3. This was 127-6 in the 11th over and
getting far too close for comfort but what a big wicket! Kirkwood needed 14 to win off the last over and Alan brought on Mike Phillips for his debut over. This paid off when, after 2 scrambled twos, Richie Crawford was clean bowled and only 7 came off the over. Rowland were home, winners by 5 runs. A no ball and 5 wides had been called but only 1 bye escaped the alert Mike Steven behind the stumps. The Kirkwood high enthusiasm from the boundary was doused and Roy of the knackered knee clapped in the team off the field! Rowlands 10 points, Kirkwood 4.
Rowlands lead the table by 9 points from Fenham and 10 points from Kirkwood with one to play and must win well on Wednesday night at Seaton Burn.
Fenham have 2 to play: Blue Flames at home tomorrow and Whitley Bay at home on Wednesday.
Kirkwood have Genetics at home on Wednesday and Blue Flames at home on Thursday.

Alan lost the toss but would have batted first anyway against Blue Flames at Percy Main. Rain was threatened but did not influence the agreed 12 overs thrash on a gloomy night!
Richie Straughan and Davo opened against the familiar attack of Keith Brown and Rob Walker. The rate was up wih ten an over when Davo was caught at deep mid off for 23 off 16 balls in Andy Horner's first over. Five well struck fours signalled Rowland's intent with Richie going well. The next partnership with new boy Joe Ashdown was something special! The pair clicked very well at this first meeting and all possible runs were taken as the score mounted. Richie was bowled by the returning Walker after all bowlers had been punished. He scored 45 off 36 balls with 5 fours and that was 123-2 in the 11th over. Joe was joined by pal Mike Phillips who scored a single a ball off 3. Man of the match Joe was certainly an instant hit with 90 not out off 41 balls, including 8 huge sixes and 3 fours with three lost balls still heading out with the tide! 169-2 was a huge ask for the Flames.
Pratty and Josh Koen started well with Alan looking for some economical opening overs to secure the win and setting an appropriate field. In his first over, Pratty bowled opener S Burkall with the score on 6 and Josh bowled to instructions with only 4 coming off his first over. Pratty excelled with a wicket next ball, Josh catching Rob Walker overhead off a skyer to the covers. It got even better when Pratty bowled Keith Brown, still only in the third over and Flames were doused at 14-3! Meanwhile Don bought the wicket of top scorer Andy Wilson (24) after he hit a six and then a 4 under Richie's rolling body. Josh then manufactured a smart run out of J Marshall and had Horner caught at the second opportunity by Davo. Then Ian Younger joined in, bowling Bell. Josh bowled one and had Mike Steven take a splendid overhead catch running back. All that was left of the Flames ended when a simple run out by Joe saw the last man out with Simon Taylor desperate for the strike to protect him. Flames scored 72 in their 10 overs with only 2 leg byes past Mike. Bowling stats: Pratty 3-0-17-3, Josh 3-0-11-3, Don 2-0-22-1, Ian 2-0-20-1.
Bring on the Kirkwood stars at the Main on Monday and then we travel to Seaton Burn for the finale on Wednesday. A good season already for Rowlands: Won 8, lost 3, tied 1 and the title a possibility!
