Shaun lost the toss for a change batted first against the Old Record Players on a cold May evening at Heaton. Matt made a dogged start but was out in the second over to a simple catch at cover. Shaun and Davo then took the attack of Xohaib and Colin Quigley apart. Davo retired hurt (shoulder tired) after 77 runs including 8 fours and 3 sixes. Shaun kept on going for 90 not out and man of the match with 8 fours and 5 sixes. ORP had never seen the ball go so far! Phil Morse fell cheaply (1) to the left arm over action of Steve o'Mara who also had Keith caught for 21 (3 fours). Roy managed 3 not out in his few balls faced. 200 was a mountain to climb in gloomy conditions for the ORP.
The made a decent start with Xohaib and Duncan Fisher putting on 79 in just under 8 overs. Chad's variation was cannon fodder for his 2-0-27-0 and Phil went for 2-0-19-0 at a similar rate. At the other end, Don recovered from a cold start after umpiring duties to beat the bat several times with the turnnig ball! Matt took the important stumping of Fisher for 39 as Don recorded 4-0-33-1. Keith then straight afterwards repeated the feat as Matt stumped Xohaib for 33. This was the end of the serious ORP challenge. Keith shut up shop with 2-0-11-1, James pitched in with 2-0-6-2 as the batsmen walked off saying "too good for me". Rob Burns bowled well with 2-0-8-0 and new man (not boy!) Ian Younger after excellent fielding took 2-1 off his first over including a third stumping from the alert Matt before getting punished in the last over for 2-0-17-2. Adam Holroyd managed 29 not out in 126-6. Comfortable win for Rowlands and 8 points

Rowlands met the Firemen in a Cup Preliminary Round tie at Tynemouth and faced two stars brought in for the night by Andy Lineham. The presence of Barry Stewart and Grant Lindsay suggested formidable opposition. The Firemen elected to bat first and soon lost both of their openers. Chad bowled Peter Hamil second ball and then Don took out Collins, bowled in an opening wicket maiden. The Lineham and Stewart combination settled in first then the big shots came to see off Don 3-1-20-1 and Chad 4-0-40-1. Phil Morse was up to the challenge and had Lineham comfortably caught for 33 (2 fours, 3 sixes) by Alan and continued with a mean spell of bowling. Davo accounted for Stewart 35 (4 fours, 1 six), well caught in the deep by confident Craig. When Craig also caught Lindsay in the deep off Morse the Firemen were never going to reach a high score. Phil picked up two cheap late wickets thanks to alert stumpings by Dave Gowland to record the Man of the Match figures of 3.8-0-10-6! Davo took a catch for Phil and recorded 3-0-21-1 as the Firemen succumbed to the excellent bowling and Alan's ever shuffled pack of fielders.
The target was 97 to win but would the newly recruited fire officers do the damage? Shepherd and Hamil opened the bowling attack but their efforts were well dealt with by Matt and Davo who pushed the score on rapidly. 35 runs came off the first 4 overs and then Colin McGuire and Stewart joined the attack. Boundaries came off McGuire who claimed Matt given out LBW by Hynd Snr. for a valuable 18 (2 fours). At the other end Stewart bowled slow stuff that was much enjoyed by Davo who hit three towering sixes and the tiles on the pavilion roof! Davo went on to make 65 not out including 8 fours and those 3 sixes. Phil came in to hit 1 run not out as the target was reached in only 8.5 overs; Linday having been confined to duties on the boundary. Rowlands must now return to Gateshead Fell to progress from the first round proper

Rowlands batted first against the Cumberland on a glorious evening at Tynemouth, but in only a 14 over match!
Matt Hynd and Phil Morse batted steadily but found runs hadr to come by against the pace attack of Marcus Turnet and Alex Giles. Matt fell to the change bowling of Turnbull and a soft catch at the wicket for 11. Roy was clean bowled by superfast John Callaghan for 1, then Keith was c&b Turner for 5 well worked singles. meanwhile, Phil amassed 33 valuable runs with two 4s before Cally round the wicket removed his furniture. Yound Dan Humble batted bravely for 4 before he too fell bowled Cally giving him 4-0-11-3 and the Man-o'-Match for Cumberland. Craig was run out for 2 and Guy bowled for 4 leaving Josh not out 1 and Oliie who faced only the last ball not out 0. A hard worked 74-7 looked to be too little but skipper Matt insisted he had it all worked out! Giles bowled well for 4-0-11-2 and Turner 4-0-23-1. Fortunately 19 runs came off Turnbull in his 2 overs.
Chad bowled a tight opening spell of 3-0-14-0 and Don 4-1-14-2 thanks to a Matt catch at mid-on and another plumb LBW adjudged by the experienced Cally to put some pressure on the Cumberland. Josh and Phil showed no mercy, with Phil bowling their likely hero Marcus Turner cheaply. Josh recorded the splendid figures of 3.5-0-11-4 and Man o' Match Phil 2-0-7-3 as the Cumberland were dismissed for a mere 49; their last man off to hospital with a bent finger from fielding. Catches were by Guy who kept well and a sharp one for Chad at square leg. What a night for the bowlers; Matt did have it sorted! Nine points for Rowlands to make up for the defeat at the Fell.

Rowlands managed to find nine men in the woodwork and were inserted by the Fell.
Sean Adair and Roy were sent out by stand-in skipper Guy. Roy was caught behind for a duck in a lively first over by one that moved away outside off. Not a good start but then off the second over, Rob Burns poached seventeen runs including a four and a six. Exit bowler Healy whose replacement accounted for Rob, swishing at a full length ball! Craig Turnbull joined Sean and the pair batted steadily. Craig offered a simple catch after making 7 (1 four) and Sean was caught for 20 (3 fours) off a skyer. Guy batted through in his own steady style for a respectable 14 (2 fours) before being bowled off the last ball of the 14 overs. Meantime, Dave Chamley scored eight before being bowled and Aiders was undefeated on a rapid 10 based on a six hit towards the Tyne Bridge! Ollie and Don were not requirwed to bat. Of seven Fell bowlers, Richard Stoddard took 2-0-7-2.
The total of 83-6 at least registered a batting point but with only nine men would never be sufficient. The Fell came out toi attack and took runs off the strikeforce of Dave Chamley 2-0-14-0 and Rob Burns 2-0-22-1 thanks to a clean catch by Roy. Craig Turnbull 2-0-18-2 was tyhe skipper's choice for change and the decision was justified as this man of the match claimed two scalps thanks to catches by Ollie in the deep and Roy on the boundary. At the other end Don 1.4-0-22-0 was then punished with three sixes by Fell man of the match Richard Steel 32* as fell cruised to a seven wicket victory in 7.4 overs.
