CCC enjoyed a good game against Mallards at riding Mill last night, but ultimately came away with their usual defeat.
As usual for this fixture only 9 players turned out, and one of those, Andy Dunhill, is a Mallards player.
Mallards won the toss and fielded in gloomy but muggy conditions. With a weakened batting side CCC needed a good start, but Jared clipped to backward point second ball. Simon and Guy had to steady the ship and played very slowly in very slow conditions for a few overs with Guy eventually bowled by Tony Cleaver. Matty came in and hit a couple of nice shots whilst Simon, after one run off 12 balls, progressesd to 35 not out from his next 26 balls. Tim Hall then played a couple of nice shots including a straight 6. However, it was eventually left to Roger, Cliff and Gerry to scramble runs near the end to give CCC a total 0f 90 to defend from 20 6-ball overs.
Despite losing two relatively cheap wickets Mallards were never in any real trouble progressing to their target and ultimately did so by 7 wickets with 4 overs remaining, sometime CCC player Alan Boyes hitting an excellent 37 not out.
CCC: Jared, Guy, Simon E, Matty, Tim, Roger, Gerry, Cliff, Andy D
