Another superb bowling and fielding display at Blue Flames saw CCC dismiss much fancied Fenham for 61 in dark, greasy conditions last night. Derek Marshall returned another stunning performance with 4-19, whilst Rian put in an almost unplayable 4 overs, taking 1-10. Tim (1-10) and Andy (4-13) also bowled superbly, whilst the ground fielding was top notch with several catches being taken, including 3 by Ian Randall, two of which were at point.
Batting against a top class fast bowling side was never going to be easy, even with a relatively small total to aim for. CCC lost 7 wickets - all of them bowled or run out in contrast to the Fenham wickets, most of which were caught - but got home comfortably in the end with the skipper scoring 36 not out.
This was a highly competitive game which at times threatened to spill over into controversy. However, at the end it was hand shakes all round, with CCC claiming a double over this opposition. What a shame one of the games against Humshaugh couldn't also have been won.
Tonight CCC play another promotion challenger, and long term colleagues, genetics at Heaton.
Team v Fenham: R. Rian, I. Randall, K. Reader, S. Edwards, R. Khan, J. Reed, P. Bennett, D. Marshall, A. Boyes, T. Hall, A. Holden
