CCC's beleaguered quiz team demonstrated their tenacity last night with a superb 2nd place finish in the Chillingham 'Pop Quiz'. Hit by depleted brain cells and lack of knowledge of the contents of Hello magazine, this season has been one of struggle in various quizzes across Tyneside. On this occasion, however, experience and sheer willpower saw CCC almost take first prize.
"We just dug in and demonstrated our knowledge of popular music of the last 40 years, even the likes of S Club 7," said skipper Simon Edwards. "Once again it was our old weakness, the picture round that let us down. What we thought was the Electric 6 proved to be Jane's Addiction, for godsakes. I never knew they were so camp...Bin Caught Stealing... Stealing what? Their mams' underwear by the looks of them!"
Edwards reserved much of his praise for the efforts of Simon Woodman, whose 'specialist knowledge' proved the difference between third place and second. "Simon really came to the fore - he's a very resourceful quizman."
The experienced Derek Marshall was also singled out for his knowledge of the types of pop music that know one else is prepared to admit to.
A further piece of good news was that a total of £6 was won for the club kitty by virtue of the second place finish. Unfortunately CCC missed out on any prize winnings for finishing second in the preceeding cricket match.
