An exciting encounter at Heaton yesterday resulted in CCC defeating Genetics by 7 runs.
Groundsman Paul deserves credit for preparing what must be the best track at this ground in a number of seasons, certainly for the time of year. The bounce was true and there was something there for batsmen and bowlers.
CCC hit 109-6 of 14 overs, with Simon E and Tom putting on a steady 50 stand after 2 early wickets, and Matt marking his debut with a wonderful last over which yielded a crucial 21 runs.
Genetics were always just a little behind the rate, apart from a couple of overs in the middle of their innings. Rian bowled a superb tight spell, and Derek continued where he left off last season. With 15 required from the last over CCC held out with Matt taking a couple of late wickets and helping himself to the man of the match award.
