AMBULANCE DRIVES ON PITCH
A game that began with Ian Randall threatening to call the police to extricate some charmless youths from the Backworth ground ended with an ambulance extricating Si Woodman to North Tynside General with a dislocated knee.
The incident occured with only three balls remaining and Si attempting a slog sweep in wet conditions, only for one part of his right leg to stick and the other to twist. He remained lying in the crease for 45 minutes whilst the medical team arrived and carried out diagnosis and treatment, all the while demonstrating the sort of phlegm CCC need to show in their battle to avoid relegation.
Promotion-chasing Aiden House were cruising to a comfortable victory at this point, thanks to their excellent bating line up which plundered 124-1 off 12 overs. CCC can be relatively pleased with their bowling and fielding display in dark wet conditions, with a much smaller outfield than the one on the same ground the previous week. In reply, Rian, Peter, Mudassar, Simon E and Si all looked comfortable, but unable to score quickly enough.
The game was totally overshadowed by Si's injury. On behalf of everyone at CCC, we wish him a speedy and full recovery, and if he can have some of what Glenn McGrath had, all the better!
Best Wishes Simon!
