CCC suffered a friendly defeat at sun-drenched Clara Vale yesterday.
The vistitors won the toss and elected to field in order to enhance their suntans. Ovingham made a brisk start with McIlroy hitting 38. It was when Derek was introduced to the attack the CCC took command. He bowled an outstanding spell of 7-4-5-3. Further noteworthy figures were returned by Guy (7-1-28-1) and Gerry (7-1-48-4), and there were fine catches by Greg and Peter. At 98-7 CCC had hopes of dismissing Ovingham for around 130, however Pescod (62 not out) and Hall (39) added 81 for the 8th wicket, with overs 27 through 32 proving disastrous for CCC. The final total of 191-9 off 35 overs was a little above par.
The CCC response was a measured run chase with the top 7 batsmen all geting good starts. However, against a slow bowling attack on a slow pitch it was difficult to accelerate and CCC fell short on 171-9 (35), with Nick 39 not out, Simon E (26) and Greg (25) the main contributors.
