Rowlands batted first against the Cumberland on a glorious evening at Tynemouth, but in only a 14 over match!
Matt Hynd and Phil Morse batted steadily but found runs hadr to come by against the pace attack of Marcus Turnet and Alex Giles. Matt fell to the change bowling of Turnbull and a soft catch at the wicket for 11. Roy was clean bowled by superfast John Callaghan for 1, then Keith was c&b Turner for 5 well worked singles. meanwhile, Phil amassed 33 valuable runs with two 4s before Cally round the wicket removed his furniture. Yound Dan Humble batted bravely for 4 before he too fell bowled Cally giving him 4-0-11-3 and the Man-o'-Match for Cumberland. Craig was run out for 2 and Guy bowled for 4 leaving Josh not out 1 and Oliie who faced only the last ball not out 0. A hard worked 74-7 looked to be too little but skipper Matt insisted he had it all worked out! Giles bowled well for 4-0-11-2 and Turner 4-0-23-1. Fortunately 19 runs came off Turnbull in his 2 overs.
Chad bowled a tight opening spell of 3-0-14-0 and Don 4-1-14-2 thanks to a Matt catch at mid-on and another plumb LBW adjudged by the experienced Cally to put some pressure on the Cumberland. Josh and Phil showed no mercy, with Phil bowling their likely hero Marcus Turner cheaply. Josh recorded the splendid figures of 3.5-0-11-4 and Man o' Match Phil 2-0-7-3 as the Cumberland were dismissed for a mere 49; their last man off to hospital with a bent finger from fielding. Catches were by Guy who kept well and a sharp one for Chad at square leg. What a night for the bowlers; Matt did have it sorted! Nine points for Rowlands to make up for the defeat at the Fell.
