Mid June but gloomy at Backworth so only 14 overs played Vs Adders who elected to bat when skipper for the night, Roy lost his toss! Chad and Alex started well with only 8 runs off the first 2 overs, then Chad bowled Kennelly. Chris Wilkie 28 and M Eve 21 survived Chad 3-0-28-1 and Alex 3-0-12-0 then Don immediately bowled Eve (21) with the score up to 53 after 7.5 overs. James Morris joined the attack and wickets fell at regular intervals as the Adders were squeezed. A few dropped catches did not help, nor did some overthrows and a huge 6 off Don as the innings progressed. However, the bowlers finished on top with Don 4-0-26-5 (4 bowled and a catch by James) for MoM and James 3-0-25-3 who had Wilkie caught by Roy, a catch at the wicket by Ted and one bowled). New recruits Ed & Ted Common added life to the side especially with Ed's big arm from the distant boundary. Adam Tait fielded enthusiastically at both ends of the field and Ian Younger did particularly well with a series of athletic stops. Adders were just denied their second batting point with 95-9 and Don was on a hat-trick but the last ball of the innings went for 4 instead!
The Rowlands reply got off to a bad start when Colin Tait was bowled with the first ball, a boomerang from Joy Saini. Dave Hawke 7 did not see much of the strike as he and Ted struggled to penetrated the field. When Dave was caught at the wicket and sportingly walked, the score was only 25 off 5 overs. However, the rate got much worse thanks to accurate bowling from Joy 4-0-17-2 and Sullivan 4-0-20-3! When Ed was caught for 6 in came skipper Roy who also struggled to get runs. After 9 overs the total was 39-3. Joy bowled Ted for 17 (1 four) and Roy was caught off Wilkie for 7. Rowlands were well behind the clock but Ian Younger 16* and James 10 (1 four) did effect some acceleration. It was too late though and Alex was clean bowled firast ball going for a big hit with sixes needed off the last few balls. Chad managed a single of his only ball faced as Rowlands fell short on 80-7. The change bowlers were quite respectable with Walker 3-0-21-1 and Wilkie 3-0-14-1.
