Alan won a toss and eleceted to bat on a glorious evening but play did not commence until 6:20 owing to several Genetics players arriving late. Davo and Shaun opened with the loss of Shaun, splendily caught at backward point off veteran Brian Taylor in the first over. Jonty Tarbuck was also bowling tightly and only 16 runs came off the first four overs with Matt Hynd batting three. Davo opened up with three 4s in Taylor's third over and bowler 3 was generous with wides for his one over as the score pushed on to 63 off 10. Davo was playing the lead role, hitting boundaries and dropped twice in the deep. Matt worked the ball around well until stumped off Tarbuck on his retunr for 32 (3 fours). Tarbuck then bowled Davo for 60 (9 fours) as he went well forward to attack the ball. The remaining overs were hectic as Rowlands middle order tried to add as many runs as possible. Dave Hawke made 3 before being caught off Taylor then Keith hit a quick 10 (1 four) before Taylor bowled him. Ed Tait bowled Roy for 1 and Alex first ball off the last ball of the game to give Rowlands a fairly comfortable 131-7 off 16.
Guy Saxton and James Morris opened up the Rowlands attack with Sax bowling Gardner with the first ball of the innings; a swinging Yorker - the ball not the bowler!Tait and Bennett then took the score on to 33 off the first four overs including a six by Tait off Sax. Then Sax bowled out two and James took three in the next over, including Tait bowled for 23, to kill Genetics' aspirations. Guy completed on 4-0-28-3 and James 4-0-22-3. Change bowling was Alex Giles 3-0-16-1 and Don 3-0-3-1 with the batsmen seeming content to bat it out with no reward! There were catches by Alex, Davo and Keith to make up for a couple of earlier missed chances. Keith wiped up the tail with a bowled and an lbw in the 15th over which was 0.7-0-0-2 and genetics finished short of their batting point on 72 all out. Alex claimed the key wicket of Andy Jeffery, bowled by a slower one for 18. Matt behind the stumps was his usual sharp self, taking cleanly on all occasions despite some variations in line from the quicker bowlers! Don was just plain boring and in danger of being replaced for the final over which was not required.
Rowlands moved up to 9 points behind leaders Genetics and have three games in hand.
