Alan negotiated Beamish batting first on another sunny evening at Ulgham. They got off to a flyer with Ryan McVitte and Paul Lumley hitting out early against the attack of Ian and Davo. After 6 overs the score was 69 without loss and Pratty closed his account with 3-0-41-0. Davo recorded 0-29 at this point. Time for the Shaun and Don show! Shaun had 21 runs hit off his first over but replied in his second over with a smart c&b of McVitte followed by bowling Mark Lawrence for a duck. It was now 99-2 after 9 overs. Shaun also took out Adam Tinnion stumped by the athletic Archie for 15 to record 4-0-50-3 with Lumley still going well. Meanwhile Don bowled a quite tight 3-0-25-0 but failed to take his coveted 30th wicket for the season. Davo returned to take the last over from which 11 runs came to give him 4-0-40-0 and Beamish closed their 14 overs on 159-3. Lumley was 82 not out.
The Rowlands reply suffered the early loss of Davo, caught behind off Richie Deacon for 3 with Ben going quite well. Shaun joined him and the pair put on a good stand before Shaun was out bowled by G Craig for 31 (4 fours), Ben was out to a spectacular catch in the deep for 40 (2 fours and 4 sixes). Biffa Ralph got a quick 19 (2 fuurs, 1 six) and Craig 14 not out (1 four) but Rowlands were always just behind the clock, especially after losing the Ben-Shaun combination. Phil was run out for 3, Archie caught for 1 and Colin not out 7. Rowlands finished short on 131-6 but it was a good contest, well umpired by Arnie Gilholm and Alan Howe who ensured fair play. Deacon recorded 2-27 off 4 and G Craig 3-27 off 3. Shaun was Man of the Match for Rowlands.
