The day started off with only 6 good men but Rowlands managed to field ten. We bowled first in a 12 overs thrash at Wardley on a soft wicket and Pratty 3-0-18-0 and Chad 3-0-25-0 did well to contain Kamran Mansour. Young Dan Storey 2-0-29-0 and Don 2-0-38-0 especially then suffered as the rate increased. Martin Rownan bowled a good over for only 7 and Davo the last for 12 but only one chance went down as GEM posted 133 without loss; Mansour 105 and M Khan 19. Roy had kept well in dodgy borrowed pads and gloves. The fielding had been generally OK in difficult visibility and James Carr (Tynemouth) deserves special mention for alert fielding and strong throwing in from the deep.
The Rowlands reply saw an early loss of Chris Robson, caught behind for 1. Ben and Davo then nearly got us home but failed by only 2 runs. Rowlands were 131-1 with Ben Man of the Match for 59* (2 sixes, 6 fours)and Davo 41* (1 six and 1 four. Roy, Chad and James Carr were chomping at the bit for a piece of the action. At 8 overs Rowlands had 97 on the board and were well in the game. 118 off 10 was good but the last 2 overs brought only 7 and 6 with Mansour bowling the last over and recording 3-0-14-0. It was a good game and another very close defeat.
This completed Rowlands season wth 4 league wins out of 14 played. Plenty to discuss on a Thursday or Friday night around a table at the Manderin in October/November!
