Rowlands are Safe!

(Posted On Fri 26 August, 2011)

Rowlands hosted YAARS knowing they needed points with Division 1 safety in their own hands. Alan lost the toss and Rowlands bowled first in a late season 10 over thrash. Josh bowled the first over, a tight one for only 4 runs and Rehan was nicely caught and bowled! Pratty bowled a tight 13-2 off his 2 overs thanks to catches off skiers to Adam and Alan. Josh got hit by Naveed Iqbal (aka DC) in hs second over and Rowlands DC was brought into the action. After 2 legside wides the Don settled to record 3-0-31-1 with an alert stumping by Mike. Roy (aka Royster) had 29 hit off his 2 overs but a second catch for Josh gave him the crucial wicket of DC for 26. Josh bowled the final over and removed stumps with his last ball to record 3-0-36-2. Mike had again kept well and there were no fielding complaints as Alan regularly shuffled his ten man pack! Several LBW appeals and a run out claim had fallen on unsympathetic YAARS' ears as they posted 110-6!

Rowlands replied with Roy and Josh who put on 59 for the first wicket before Roy was bowled centrally for 39 (3 fours). Josh was finally stumped for 36 (2 sixes and a four) and he sportingly walked from the wicket with young head held high and a Man of the Match award to follow! Craig manipulated an important 15 not out with one huge 6 and Adam came of age with a resisting 9 before being run out after previously surviving such appeals. The last ball of the match required 4 t owin and ... cometh the hour cometh the giant .. the enthusiastic Tom More with his one and only ball to face hit a decisive boundary to cow corner with a quite correct stroke!

Rowlands were home by 7 wickets (only 6 available!) off the last ball of the game to take 9 points and enjoy safety from the drop which now is the fate of G E M!! This was the double over YAARS and the third win in a row. Well done Tom!!

Tomorrow night's final game, at home to Mitford, might have lost some spice but it is another game that should be won to continue the push back up the table.
