Rowlands Beat the 2011 Champs, Adders!

Rowlands sent out a strong team to face 2011 League Champions Adders at Backworth. Alan lost the toss but got his wish to bat on a glorious evening at Backworth. Ben and Roy put on 48 for the first wicket when Ben was out for 21 (4 fours) to a catch off Chris Wilkie. Roy then walked out for 22 (3 fours) for a caught behind with the score on 79 as Rowlands made good progress. James Welch was hitting the ball well and made 19 (3 fours) before playing on. Richie hit 2 fours and lots of singles in his 17, followed by 9 from Craig Moffat who fell to a good catch well behind off quite a high ball. Alan struck the ball well for his 11 (one 4) before being bowled by Joy Saini. Chris Dunlop showed promise with a quick 6 not out (one 4) and Pratty 3 singles in the final unbroken stand. Rowlands marked up a competitive 132 - 6 in their allotted 16 overs. Young Richie Shotton impressed with 4-0-24-2 as the main attacking Adder.

Moffatt and Pratty attacked the Adders from the start of their innings. Three wickets fell quickly and Rowlands were on top with Alan marshalling the field in his usual effective way! Adders showed spirit and were always still in the game until almost the end. However, Don bowled the main threat Rich Shotton for 37 and Adders were restricted effectively to 124-7 in a closer finish than Alan would have liked! There was a superb throw in from Roy to claim a run out and a justified MoM award. Tom More claimed his first wicket for Rowlands in the penultimate over. Bowling figures: Moffat 4-0-26-2. Pratt 4-0-21-1, Dunlop 4-0-36-1, Catley 3-0-25-1, More 1-0-9-1 with a good catch by Welchie for the Pratty!

Next week we are back to Ulgham on Monday to take on Genetics. Thursday at Cowgate is still a possibility but still to be confirmed by Kirkwood.
