Nail Biting win at the Bay!

(Posted On Wed 13 June, 2012)

Davo won the toss on a sunny night at the coast and elected to bat (facing a pink ball) on his welcome return. He opened with Ben and the pair put on 34 before Ben was adjudjed lbw for 10 after hitting one convincing four. Davo took charge and Roy was short of the strike but they pushed on to 72 before Davo was bowled by a slower one and out for 54 with 10 fours in the eighth over. Going well at this stage but then runs became harder to get with Roy joined by Ian the Younger. Roy was next out as he tried to push the score, bowled for 21 (3 fours). Phil lost one and was bowled second ball for an unhelpful duck. Kev Hall got a bat and showed style but only 5. Ian was caught for 22 (2 fours) as the rate slowed. In the few remaining deliveries Adam 1 not out, Tom a duck and Mike 0 not out failed to achieve the second batting point as 126-7 was posted off 16 overs. Bay wicket takers, each with 4 overs, were Scott Latimer 2-21, S May 2-32, Chris Dunn 1-25 and Ben Harris 2-41.

This was an interesting target with the Bay known to have a good batting lineup. Davo threw the gauntlet to Ian and Tom to restrict the required rate of 8 an over and it was now an orange ball! Ian had success and bowled Piper for 10 in his 4-0-33-1. Tom bowled 3 overs for 25 and at the halfway stage Jonny Hymers was still there and it was honours even at 64-1. Fielding had been quite good on the big pitch but anything short was punished. Time for the Richie and Don show! The score continued to move at just about the required rate but then MoM Richie struck by removing both Hymers and Graeme Turnbull for 40 with thier castles overturned as the tension mounted. Don mixed good with short and went for an OK 4-0-27-0 with Tom taking one for the badge on his foot on the off side for an important dot ball. Richie was slightly more economical with 4-0-23-2. One over to go and 14 were required. Graham Ord was on 15 not out but not on strike. Back came Tom for the last one to bowl one of the overs of his short Rowlands life that went for only 9 with a wicket and a final dot ball. He was clapped off the pitch but nobody offered to carry him!! Final figures of 4-0-34-1 just clinched it for a nail Biting win at the Bay!
