Normal Service was resumed for Rowlands against the 'Civils' at Close House in the first round of the Cup.
Shaun Collins won an important toss at the second attempt and elected to bat. He took to the crease with Davy Bell and the lads put on an impressive 67 for the first wicket. Davy fell for 29 and Shaun went the extra mile to score 55. Scott Neeson went cheaply but Bob Chapman 7 and Andy Horner 10 pushed ther score beyond 100. The tailenders managed to add a few more, with Don Catley permitted a rare bat, encouraging some final scurries for singles to the close field.
In reply the Civil Service were well pegged back by all bowlers. Andy Horner and Davy Charlton both logged 3-0-7-3 and the only downer was giving away 5 extras when Shaun took his head out of his helmet! Change bowlers also kept on top and finished off the job: Jeff Thomson 2.1-0-6-3 and Don Catley 2.1-0-6-3.
Rowlands 121-6, CS 48 all out. Next in the Cup is away to Gateshead Cavaliers or Genetics. By Don Catley
