The first appearance of Rowlands at Whickham resulted in a victory that was not always assured. Rowlands elected to bat and started with the new combination of Colin Tait and Simon Curtis and a first wicket stand of 99 runs. Colin with 11 fours in his 79 not out (but still no sixes this season yet Colin!) pipped Simon's 8 fours in 51. Guy Scholes notched up an important 8 in his comeback as Rowlands reached 149-3.
The Whickham reply began slowly as Charlton 0-9 and Andy Horner 1-18 gave little away. However, the change bowling of Thomson 2-44 (two valuable wickets Jeff!) and Catley 0-30 was more generous and at one point it looked just possible that M. Allan 41 not out, C. Nunn 21 and M. Dixon 27 might get closer than a sniff! A subtle bowling change by skipper Alan Hynd brought back Andy Horner early for his final over and that killed off the chase.
Whickham managed a creditable 108-3 against more keen fielding, this time especially by Justin Smart and Andy Horner with Guy making a series of good takes behind the stumps.
