Alan won a good toss and Rowlands batted first. With such a strong lineup the order needed lottery tickets but Will Allen and Ritchie Evans went out first. Both were selective with their shots and showed respect to the good ball and both were out to stunning catches by Khalid Azam which were picked up hard and low in the covers and at point. Will made 29 (5 fours) and Ritchie 15 (2 fours). Ross McLaren came in at three and gradually worked up through the gears, finishing off top notch in the last over with three sixes and a four (3 sixes and 4 fours in total). Roy Haygarth made the most of his return to the crease at number 4 with a display of powerful driving. His many hard run 2s and 3 fours in 39 before K Azam fooled him with a slow one pushed the score on well and helped Man of the Match, Ross to his 59 not out. Phil Morse also scored a useful 6 not out. West End had started with only 8 men having refused the offer of fielders by Alan, the rest of the team arriving at 6:35! There was good 'banter' on the field during the innings and the batsmen all did well for 160-3.
The Rowlands front line attack of Eddie Collins and Dave Charlton subdued the aggressive openers and each took a wicket; Eddie bowled one and Alan stumped out one in his usual style! After the initial spells of 3 overs each the score was recorded as 42-2 with 14 coming off Eddie's second over. Eddie had 1-23 and Dave 1-17. Enter Phil Morse into the attack and .. game over! Phil bowled very well to record 4-0-16-4, all bowled. At the other end Don did OK with 3-0-14-1 thanks to a catch by Dave Charlton. Jarrod finished off with seven balls that conceded no runs, demolished the stumps twice and saw a smart run out from a smart throw in by Phil, neatly directed onto the stumps by Jarrod. West End were dismissed for 77 and thanked us for a good game!
