9 Man Rowlands start with a win!

(Posted On Tue 8 May, 2007)

New-Look Rowlands smashed 164-2 at Gateshead Fell to win the first game of the 2007 campaign. The James boys started steadily against the bowling of Healy and the economical Anthony Trotter. Davo then let loose with a series of impressive straight drives for 4s (eight in total) with his 'brother' hitting a huge six and three fours before being bowled by the nippy Rob Smith. Davo was also bowled by Smith but then Adam Nairn 19 not out and especially Ross McLaren 62 not out really took the bowling apart. Ross hit 2 sixes and seven fours, mainly off Rob Smith (58-2) and the tail end bowlers. Trotter had recorded an impressive 4-0-18-0 given the later onslaught when the lads were running for anything! Still in the hutch we failed to unleash the combined powers of Rob Farenheim, Roy Haygarth, Ritchie Evans, Rob Wilson and even Don Catley! How many could we have made in 30 overs, let alone 14!

The Fell came out to attempt the score, especially with only 9 Rowlands men on the pitch, but were pegged back almost immediately with wickets per over from Ritchie Evans 3-0-20-2 and especially Rob Wilson 4-0-25-4; no answer to his guile! Don got in amongst them also with 4-0-42-2 having suffered boundaries at the hands of Mark Smith before bowling him for 63 with a quicker one. Rob Farenheim 3-0-43-0 also took some punishment before the innings closed at 128-8 off the 14 overs. Catches were taken by Davo (2) and Don (2 including a c&b) and Adam Nairn with James Welsh in particular covering acres as the ball kept following him.
