After extensive efforts to raise a team a new look Rowlands including Adam Tait aged, 14 years making his debut and Ian (Archie) Archbold his seasonal debut turned out apprehensively to face ORP. The priority to win the toss and bat was achieved by the skipper. James Morris was plumbing his way back from York and expected to arrive late. Archie and reliable Colin opened up making slow but necessary progress on a dodgy wicket and a defensive field. They batted for more than 8 of the 16 overs before Colin departed for a belligerent 25. Roy Haygarth and Gary Hall quickly followed for 1 and 0 respectively. Alan joined Archie, however he departed for a steady 18 and Alan not to be outdone was out for 4. This minor crisis was averted because Robert Burns came to the crease and added 18* with some good strikes and James Morris having adjusted his plumbing padded up and added a quick fire 15 including a six. The innings concluded at 103 for 9 which all in the dressing room thought was a decent score on that track.
James Morris and Chris Hearn opened the bowling and had the Record players struggling from the off. Wickets fell regularly including a run out from a monster throw from top fielder Roy. James finished with 4-1-10-2 and Chris 4-1-16-2, a fantastic start. Dave Charlton came on with equal meanness, although Roy bowled an over to try to keep them in the game with an assortment of wides, long hops and no balls. He was replaced by Gary Hall who followed the example of those who bowled before him. The final wicket was a run out, however Dave C finished with 3.6-0-11-2 and Gary with 2.0-14-2. ORP all out 67 and Rowlands 2nd team alias Ulgham plus Archie Roy and Robbie 9 pts to the good.
