Alan won the toss for a change and elected to bat, sending in the Benwell Hill Boys James Welsh and David Ladd. It was all uphill for Genetics as the duo put on 101 for the first wicket. Both survived a few chances and it was James who left the field first to a man-of-the-match round of applause, stumped whilst accelerating after 64 runs including six 4's and two 6's. Roy came in to hit a powerful and undefeated 21 (three 4's) whilst David was caught for his steady 39 (three 4's and 21 singles!). Sunil's case was a four and out, also caught off the returning Tim Davis. Archie walked after a fine edge to the keeper for 3 then Robbie Burns struck some huge blows for 20 (4,4,6) not out and stealing the last over from Roy! For Genetics Davis took 2-35 off his 4 overs as Rowlands closed on 156-4.
With dark skies threatening, Genetics attempted a fast start. 69 was the target off 8 overs if rain interrupted play. At the top end and with his special semi-polished ball Browny was unplayable. He recorded a special 4-0-7-3 involving a catch by Roy! At the other end, Don was hit for three fours by Andy Jeffries in his first over but then steadied to complete 4-0-22-2 as Alan shuffled the field. Archie was his usual upfont self with some superb takes, including a stumping and a catch. The score was only 32-2 off 8 overs and the skies threatened but, like the Genetics batsmen, did not produce the goods to halt Rowlands points surge. Dave Charlton copied Don's figures exactly, thanks to one bowled and a catch by Browny. James took a catch late on for new boy Phil Hudson who took 1-28 off his four overs of flighted spin.
A good team effort with Genetics held to 86-8; 9 points Rowlands and Genetics 2.
