Shaun won the toss for Matt and the rest of us and elected to bat. David Ladd and Shaun sterted slowly, penned back by the bowling of Richard Malcolm 4-0-16-0 and Norman Sattar 4-0-24-1. David went lbw for 5 and Roy was bowled for 7 (one 4) by the change bowler. At 8 overs the score was only 40-1 and not looking clever for an abandoned game with storm clouds threatening! However, Shaun opened up, inspired by the arrival of James Davidson. Shaun was then bowled for 34 (a 4 and a 6). Sunil Malhotra was in sparkling form with slices over gully and a 6 over point. He notched up three 4s and two sixes in a swashbuckling 36 before being adjudged lbw with three balls of the over remaining. Lewis Bruce received two of these for 1 not out and James got man of the match for his steady but powerful 33 not out (three 4s and a 6). The total achieved was 131-4.
The Civils reply was interrupted when they reached 22-1 off 4.6 overs. Lewis Bruce bowled 2.6-0-17-0 and Don Catley 2-0-4-1. Matt led the charge off the field and wisely got changed before there was any chance of further play! Play almost did resume but the rain returned. Rowlands took 4 points and Civils 3.
