Convergys Cricket Club

Formed 2011

In 2011 keen cricketer and Convergys employee Fred Wiles suggested to the management of his employer Convergys that using their resource and willingness to empower their employees with opportunities to advance and develop sporting interests for all skill levels, that a cricket team would be popular amongst his colleagues.

After appointing the clubs first Captain Somnath Dubey and inviting interest from a group of enthusiasts working within the building for companies such as Post Office,PayPal,Cisco and others and after a proposal to join the North East Midweek Cricket League was accepted the club started out on its first season.

The squad gathered for pre season nets and with varying skill levels on show it became necessary for all to encourage and motivate each other if we were to have any success. Any trepidation was soon forgotten as a real bond developed within the core of the squad.

With hard work behind the scenes by many including Vaitheesh Subramanyam, Bob Patel and soon to become Skipper Matt Hammond, Convergys Cricket Club took to the field. What was lacking in skill was made up with hard work and team play and at the half way stage of the season Convergys found themselves at the top of their division with a near perfect record.

What could possibly happen next?..........

As the season progressed and opponents discovered strengths and weaknesses, the squad had calls from home and abroad and injuries came and went, Convergys succumbed to a couple of defeats.

Points were squandered, wins became ties and inexperience in the harsh environment of North East cricket became apparent.

With determined character and a strong team spirit, the boys fought back. By this time the team were second in the league but fought for a vital win in the last two games.

Sure enough the win came and with it second place in the league, thus guaranteeing promotion for Convergys Cricket Club in their debut season.

The miracle has happened........
