JustSport Cup Final

(Posted On Sun 1 September, 2013)

North-East Mid-Week Cricket League: Just Sport Cup Final 2013 won by Kirkwood V Whitley Bay at Bates Cottages CC on Sunday 1st September.

Whitley Bay elected to bat first and scored only 98 off 21.3 overs (of 30 off 8 ball overs allocated) with number ten bat Scott Latimer making 21. All batsmen struggled on an unpredictable pitch with Whitley collapsing from a more comfortable 51-1 after openers Niall Piper 10 and Ben Harris 14 were well supported by Graeme Turnbull with 13. Man of the Match Richard Crawford took 5-21 with all his wickets coming in a devastating second spell and Ahtasham Mahmood 3-17.

Whitley Bay fought back to take 7 wickets with Craig Sample 3-46 and Alex Giles 3-25. Opener and man of the season Jaswinder Singh was bowled by Craig Sample for 14 but three other Kirkwood bats made up most of the difference: Mohammed Usman 17, Kaleem Aslam 18 and Mohammed Shehzad 19. Kirkwood reached 99-7 in the 16th over with father and son Richard and Amrit Crawford at the crease.

Brilliant hosting by Bates, umpires Bill Lockey and Steve Ransome, scorers Gillian and Peter Woodley. Thanks to JustSport for sponsorship, trophies and match balls.
