The annual inter-league fixture between the North-East Mid-Week Cricket League and the Northumberland League was hosted by the Nld League at Bates Cottages on Sunday 7th July.
NEMWCL elected to bat first and scored 196 all out from 38.2 of their allotted 40 overs. Anthony Quarrell opened and made 29, Andy Percival 20, Arsalan Rahim 18 but then Jaswinder Singh hit a tremendous 85 off just 44 balls with five fours and nine sixes! His Kirkwood team mate Richard Crawford supported him well with 10. For the Northumberland team C Robinson took 2-29, Ross Symington 2-48 and Mark Lawrence 3-44.
In reply the Northumberland team lost early wickets although opener C Harwood made 24, bowled by Richie Smith. At 64-6 they were in trouble but a splendid stand between D Leason and Lawrence took the score to 144 before hopes were dashed when Leason was run out going for a second run. Resistance was over with the return of the opening bowlers Rahim who recorded 4-29 and Crawford 4-26 with Nld all out for 169 in the 32nd over.

NB The Duke of Northumberland Cup is next Sunday at Bates Cottages, 2pm start when NEMWCL play the Northumberland League.
Apologies to Adders, it was Corbridge Ratcatchers who were fine for conceding a game to them! Outstanding fines from Aletasters and Monkseaton Saints are about to be increased!
