Jon Robinson 1965-2013

Sadly we have to report that Jon Robinson of Genetics and the Management Committee passed away peacefully on January 1st. A celebration of his life was very well attended on 10th January.

Jon had been admitted to a hospice on the previous Friday after taking ill during the summer season. Members of his family were with him.

Jon was Genetic’s Fixture Secretary for many years, and also a member and reliable attendee of Management and general League meetings. The attached photo from the 2011 Presentations shows John happy with his Div 2 Winners medal at the back, next but one to President Malcolm Kennedy. Jon was an important element of the Championship winning team of 2008 and he also played in some fixtures in 2012.

Jon's life is already being likened to his typical innings; always explosive but too short. A really superb, genuine guy! See attached for further thoughts.

Many who knew Jon have already supported fund raising for Cancer Research in Jon’s memory. The Mallards CC club account is acting as a collection point for anyone wishing to donate. THis account will be kept open for a short while longer.

The League express their sympathies and were well represented on Thursday although League President Malcolm Kennedy had to give his apologies from Australia.

A new NEMWCL award for FAIR PLAY in his name is planned and will be donated by his elder brother Nigel.

Courses Cancelled; Cup Sponsor Change

Owing to a shortfall in applications for the CWO courses set up especially for the League at reduced cost on 24th and 31st January, these have been CANCELLED. New dates in March will be announced when they become available.

Sadler Brown have withdrawn their sponsorship of the Cup after many seasons. The new sponsor will be Just Sport who will also now supply the individual trophies. Ian Stokoe ('Mr. Just Sport') will continue to supply the match balls for the League's representative games and cup final. Furthermore, Ian has been asked to quote a price to clubs for pink cricket balls for the evening fixtures - optional in 2013, perhaps mandatory in 2014.

Registration Forms and £40 fees are awaited - required before or at the AGM on 6th February. Calling Notice to follow. CES will be known as Eaga Old Boys. Vacancies exist for Div. 5 - please help to spread the word.

NCB Introductory Scorer's Course

Northumberland Cricket Board Officials Association have organised an Introductory Course for Scorers to be held at Benwell Hill Cricket Club on Thursday 7th, 14th and 21st March from 7pm to 9pm.

The course is an introductory level, delivered in a fun and friendly manor and is perfect for anyone thinking about becoming a scorer. This is an ideal opportunity for people involved in junior cricket or just interested in learning more about the Game.

There is no charge for what will prove to be an enjoyable course, everyone is welcome.
