Genetics managed to snatch a loss from the jaws of victory at Riding Mill on the weekend. Batting first, Riding Mill's strong batting line up treated the Genetics bowling with respect, Chris Mee bowling particularly well, and was unlucky not to make the breakthrough, conceding many runs through the slips. As it was, Brian Taylor got the first wicket, and Greg Lutton managed to get two wickets as well, before Chris Drought and Dave Jones got one each. Chris Mee came on for a final spell and got his two wickets before Riding Mill declared at tea at 166 for 7.
Opting to open with Gary van Doorn and Gez Greenwood, Genetics were quickly in trouble losing Gez for a duck. Andy Goulding followed a couple of overs later, but not before he had made 16. There followed a partnership of 41 between Gary and Dave Jones before Gary was out for 37, and Dave followed soon after for 35. Raj Rihal(12), Greg Lutton(15), and Chris Mee(10) all chipped in, but Genetics managed to get bowled out with just six balls remaining 30 runs shy of the target.
