(Posted On Tue 12 August, 2008)

YAARS pick up 8pts = 14 played 110pts....and bag the LEAGUE DIVISION 2 TITLE....

Match Report
TWFS v YAARS (Gateshead Fell) on Monday 11th August 2008

Highlights:
YAARS 101 for 7 in 14 overs:
MOM N Iqbal
N Iqbal 28
R Saeed 22
Bowling
C Oakes 1-18
O Ahmed 2-16

TWFS 96 for 5 in 14 Overs:
MOM Hope
Batting
Hope 27
Murray 21
Bowling
Shepard 2-20
McGuire 1-11

YAARS fielded a young side led by Shahzad Alvi with Billy Ahmed, vice. Zammy ‘50pence’Ahmed returned to action after a lengthy lay-off to take the gloves off Faurooq Engineer who management decided to rest.
The YAARS pace department looked very healthy with young gun ‘Shoaib Nuclear’ Basit Akthar returned to the side alongside left arm seamer Wasim ‘Siam-saleem’ Akram.

Ricky and young Zayn opened the batting, Zayn looked very comfortable against the TWFS attack, Z played some glorious cover and square drives with Ricky playing the role as senior partner. TWFS go an early breakthrough with left arm pacer Sheppard cleaning up Zayn and then following it up with an inswinging Yorker to dismiss Basit who had been promoted up the order. Big Beefy aka Sachin, took longer to get to the wicket take his guard ang return to the most incredible, magnificent, fantastic, amazing catch ever seen at first slip….Obviously TWFS had done their homework and targeted the big lad, bowl outside off stump and big beefy will try and mow one to cows lick…..job done for the fireman, YAARS pro, departed.
Enter young Siam, S went in a played like his hero ‘Courney Walsh’ leaving the first twelve ball faced……getting usto the pace and bounce in the wicket. Siam showed the YAARS hierarchy (Commander) he knew exactly where his off stump was. Siam decided to open up and boost the run rate Ricky batted well before being caught. Siam followed shortly and enter the Marx brothers – Alfred 18, and Zammy…..they batted well to take the score from 70 odd to a respectable 101 for 7….a decent score.

Big Billy Ahmed and Oaksey opened the bowling, Craig bowling seam up with big in-duckers – and at the other end Billy showed he is a Batting allrounder who can tweak the ball, his flight and guile had the fireman in all sorts of trouble. Had it not been for ‘yellow-belly Vedhara bottling out a dolly catch – Billy could have picked up a couple. Instead he got tanned for 6 over long off…..Billy a little disgruntled let loose on Vedhara…..Omar came on to take 2-16, and Oakes as usual proved form is temporary, class is permanent picking up 1-18. Zammy done well standing upto all the bowlers except Nuclear Akthar, he also bagged a brace…so well done Zammy-lad. YAARS had kept nuclear Akthar ‘Basit’ up there sleeve – and Alvi, let the young paceman go…….and just like Elvis is was “GO man, GO” he bombed in and let loose frightening the lives out of the fireman. They were climbing back up their poles. The fireman need 18 off the last over and finished on 96 for 5 in their 14 allocated.

Yaars won the toss and decided to let Seaton Burn have first use of a damp moist track, Haji and Omar (2-14) opened the bowling and took some early wickets.
Haji sending SB opener back caught O Ahmed on boundary, this was followed up with another great catch taken by N Chatterjee, again on the boundary sending S Samaathungha back to the pavilion. Seaton Burn consolidated as omar picked up a couple to leave SB on 29 for 4. C Tuck 38, came back hard at the YAARS, batting well and bringing the scored back to a respectable total... Wickets tumbled...as DC took a 'blinding catch'....Faurooq Enginner rolled back the year showing form is temporary and class is permanent with an exhibition of clean glove work.....also picking up a absolute sky-er!!!!!
Seaton Burn finished on 80 in 12 overs..... a respectable total thanks to the efforts of Tuck...

YAARS opened their innings with DC and Big Billy....Big Billy '0' living upto his name - caught to a blinding catch, S Samaathungha picking up an early wicket....DC crashed a couple of boundaries and then hauled out to another great catch by the Burn, O Ahmed picked up Samaathungha dispatching em for 6' but, the Seaton Burn opening bowler had the last laugh sending Ahmed on his way next ball.....This brought together R Ahmed 16no and N Chatterjee 32 who started off slowly but, seen the side home.
Well done to YAARS - Keep up the good work!!!

Match Report : YAARS v Civil Service 07/08/08

(Posted On Fri 8 August, 2008)

Match Report: from Desi Dot Com!!!
YAARS v Civil Service
Heaton Medical Ground on Thursday 7th August 2008:

Civil Service 77 for 10 in 12 Overs:
MOM Norman
Batting
Nagesh 14
Bowling
Norman 2-15

YAARS 81 for 4 in 9 overs:
MOM S Alvi
Shahzad Alvi 25
Rolly Ahmed 23no
Bowling
N Chatterjee 3-10

On a wet windy August evening stand in skipper wins the toss and decides to bowl, (in the words of Billy Ahmed "Wuddah Beshurum, got not bottle").
Zayn bowled very well and could have the early breakthrough was it not for the athletic Marc Chootay and Old Man Billy Ahmed.....don't worry Z, poor field placing by the skipper.
Surj and Neel had the Civil Servants in a spin.
Then young Basit came on aka 'Shoaib' lovely fluent run up and some hostile fast bowling.....even Farruk 'Rolland' Engineer had his helmet on standing behind the sticks.
Got to add the exhibition of wicket keeping from aka Farruk Engineer was a pleasure - Two 'tremendous' catches
and a 'spectacular' exhibition of glove work, it was 'fabulous'.....Ladies and Gentlemen it gave me great pleasure just to be in his presence.....

Anyway, Civil Service were bowled out for 77 in 12 overs, with wickets shared around, Zayn, Surj, Neel, Basit, and Big Oaksy.....

The Yaars run chase began with Skipper 'Alfred da Great' opening the batting, the dug deep in very difficult conditions - a gritty 25 earning him the MOM (He also fills in the score card). Big Oaksy 'pinch-hitting' got the Yaars off to a flyer. The big fella hauled out to a spectacular catch at backward point. Marc Chootay came to the wicket after his batting exhibition on Saturday for Clara.....he promptly has his middle stump uprooted....confirming his status as a bowler.
Young Walter Waleed, standing in for bro Omar came to the wicket and showed as Beefy says - "form is temporary, class is permanent"....also bowled - as Norman 'Wisdom' turned the screw on the Yaars - Farruk Engineer 23no aka Yaars pro came to the wicket to add some stability - and take the game away from the Servants.......

Well dun to all, that’s all folks!!!
