Innings included 10 6's and 8 4's.....MASSIVE

Singing in the Rain!!!!! - YAARS THUMP THE DON!!!!

(Posted On Tue 29 June, 2010)

10-man YAARS TIGERS - followed up their Blagdon 6-a-side victory with a devastational display of cricket at Ulgham…..
The DON ‘Catley and Rowlands CA were left stunned

YAARS started with 9 men, as Roamy F1 Iqbal had broken down in a farmers field - and would arrive after 3 overs…….
Balal Haider is still looking for the ground - Marc ‘LET DOWN’ Chootah (his lass has put her foot down)………
Jackie Hashim was cleaning windows - Bug’s Tubelight had starter problems and Beefy is still checking the bus timetables.
YAARS had Professional, Record Breaker 267 Rehan Mohammed resting, with Omar Ahmed on babysitting duties….
Surj Singh was unavailable due to his daughters birthday - he was making the Jelly and Custard……….on the whole…..
YAARS turned up to tackle the DON!!!!

Batted first Rowlands started off slowly - with Newcastle CC cricketers, pushing the run rate along -
Naveed DC bowled one of his ‘Shoaib Akthar’ inswinging to knock over middle stump with Rowlands at 25 for 1,
Davidson arrived at the wicket and started to pile on the runs - Billy Ahmed to a skyer at long on to slow the run rate down…

Please note: YAARS bowling attached included Naveed DC, Zayn Ahmed, Bilal Ahmed, Roamy Iqbal, Basit Alvi and Bilal Mirza………
Strike premier bowlers Marc, Hajji, Bilal Haider, Rehan and Surj were missing otherwise it could have been 276 for 5…..

Then Bilal Mirza bowled Johnson with a slow off cutter knocking his pegs ooooot……………….Rowland 95 for 3 off 9 overs….
All the young bowlers bowled well in difficult conditions - the ‘boys’ fielded like tigers - except for DC Durpook who bottled a straight one down his throat.
(what a Murgaha!!!)…..Basit Alvi was warned for bolwing too fast - dangerous bowling - as he was unable to grip the ball, (Alvi has the same trouble)
Basit tried a couple of Shane Warn sliders (which went a little off the radar), Ritchie (umpire) gave him a second warning and then asked for him to be taken off
………for dangerous / reckless bowling….

The big lad from St Georges Rovers (not off Corination Street) went ballistic and smashed Basit / Roamy / DC all oooowa….
6’s over extra cover n all sorts……………….Rowland finished with a massive 176 for 5……….in 14 overs…..

YAARS weren’t beaten - a stern team talk from acting captain, Rolly Ahmed - asked his ‘boys’ to play positive - get in!!!!
Alvi and Zayn opened - first ball - Alvi beaten outside off stump, all ends up - second ball………..straight ball length and middle stump cartwheels out the deck.
Alvi plays a cross batted slog, totally missed a straight ball - and is dismissed - looking rather dopey and sheepish - he departs back to the pavilion (ashamed by his antics)
Big Billy EEEh Ahmed joins his son Zayn at the wicket - first ball playing a lovely off drive for two, then an on drive for four followed by a cover drive for 4 -
YAARS up the run rate and are 32 for 1 off 3 overs - Zayn goes for a lofted drive and is caught at extra cover…………
DC enters the arena to smash a couple of four a six and then plays on………… 43 for 3, after 5 over’s - YAARS look in trouble…..
Bilal Ahmed joins Billy Ahmed (the ‘B Ahmed’ Attack) - and the rest as they say is history………….the ball was smashed to all parts of the ground by
Billy Eeeeh Ahmed who took on all bowlers - Ritch, Davidson, John Lever left armer and the DON, who dropped Billy Ahmed on 84,
Billy took 19 of one over with 4 late cuts and to rub salt into the wounds Bilal hit Don for 4 then a massive 6 in his next over….
The next over from lever went for 26 off John Lever - and reached his 100 - the YAARS reached their target in 12.1overs …………

What a win!!!!! What a game under very wet conditions……………………Don was obviously desperate to get the game played, as Rowlands needed the points.
The Ulgham groundsman wasn’t too happy at the end of the game………but not as unhappy as the DON!!!!

Billy Ahmed 110no - is the NEW NE MIDWEEK LEAGUE RECORD HOLDER for 2010….

YAARS Retain - Blagdon 6 a side Cricket Trophy - June 2010

(Posted On Mon 28 June, 2010)

Macmillan Cancer Care Blagdon 6s 27th June 2010
YAARS REHAN Trophy!!!

All four teams who took part in the competition this year were from the North-East Mid-Week Cricket League. Kings School Old Boys had two teams and YAARS and The Boiler Clinic were the others.

A round robin saw YAARS win ALL their three games and the others one each. A bowl out resulted in the Boiler Clinic winning through with two strikes from Don Catley and Roy Haygarth against one each from Kings A & B with Marcus Turner and Phil Morse the hit men.

The final resulted in a tie at 58 each and then there was a toss of coin because YAARS favoured a super over rather than the bowl out preferred by the Boiler Clinic. YAARS heads won this! Boiler Clinic scored a creditable 19 off their over with Roy supported by Sam Thornton. However, YAARS hit 23 to take the trophy with Northumberland 3 counties League individual highest score record holder 267* M REHAN supported by Naveed Iqbal DC 333.

Congratulations to YAARS for the second year running.
And a big thank you to Cosy News 333 for sponsoring the YAARS new team kits.....young Basit arrived just in time to play in the tournament 'Bubbar Sher!!!'

Thanks to Peter and Gillian Woodley with David Craven for umpiring and scoring and to Erin Richardson and the rest of the Macmillan team for a super day set up by Blagdon
and their obliging groundsman.

YAARS team in the final: YAARS = Rohail Ahmed 333, Captain/Wkt, Wasim Hashim (Aka Jackie), Naveed Iqbal 333 (Aka DC), Zain Ahmed 333, Rehan Mohammed (267) and Basit Alvi.

Boiler Clinic = Robert Tulip, Ian Younger, Roy Haygarth, Jack Concannon, Sam Thornton and Don Catley. Photos with
Erin Richardson and the YAARS youngsters.

Incidentally YAARS is Punjabi for friendship.

Alvi Gudaaar played for Kings Old Boys A and still lost (beshurum)

In excess of £1000 will have been raised from the cricket alone for Macmillan and there is still the chance to donate, please speak to any of the YAARS asap...
